Hi, my name is Phillip Stemann, and I’ll be learning you how to succeed with your website.
As you already know if you have listened to my previous episodes, is that Google has recently released a huge update to their search engines called core Web vitals. It means a lot of stuff, and I have already explained a lot of it. So if you want to hear more about it, go back in my episodes. So today, I will give you one simple tip on how you can optimise your website for this new update from Google. I will do more episodes within this update from Google to help you succeed in your rankings, because it’s a, it’s a rather major change from Google.
And you need to do some changes to your website if you want to succeed with your blog posts and whatever you are doing. Today, I will talk about using a CDN, a CDN stands for Content Delivery Network. And it’s basically a network of servers which are ready to deliver your website. And you can imagine this network of servers is all around the world, so let’s say that your website is hosted on a platform in Frankfurt, in Germany. If a visitor from the United States then visit your website and you don’t have a content delivery network, then the visitor needs to request your website all the way from Germany.
And it needs to go back to the United States. And as you can imagine, even though it’s data, it can take quite a while. And to solve this issue, you need to use a CDN if you have a CDN. Basically, what the website will do is that it will find the server closest to you and then it will deliver the website from this server. Now you have the explanation and this means that not all should use a CDN, because if your target group is only a local target group around where your server is, there’s absolutely no need to have a CDN.
It’s a waste of money. A CDN is perfect if your target audience is all around the world or even just all around Europe and you have your server in Europe, you would still need a content delivery network to help you load your website faster.
And the thing is, the reason why it’s going to help with your rankings is because if your server is in Frankfurt and Google in the United States, catches your website and find a certain blog post important for a keyword phrase, then if your website takes a long time to load in that certain area, Google will not like this as it doesn’t give a good page experience. It’s not a good user experience that you have to sit and wait, you know that yourself.
Therefore, it should be able to load fast wherever it is in the world with proper Internet of course.
If you want some few tips, not tips, but if you want some few plugins you can use for your website, I will dig into a few of them. There is Cloudflare, which is probably the one most of you know, they do much more than a CDN. But I think the reason why they are so popular more than they have a huge network of servers is that they have a free version of their CDN.
It’s not it’s very basic and you don’t get a lot, but it’s a good way to get started. And when you look for a CDN, there is a lot of different parameters you need to look into. It’s not only the price point, because often the lower the price, the lower the amount of servers. And as you can imagine, imagine the lower amount of servers there are around the world, the longer it will take in certain areas to load your website, let’s say a visitor is in between two servers, and they’re quite far away from each other, and they want to visit your website, then it can take a time.
So the more servers there are around the world, the higher the opportunity is for your website to load fast.

Another option is KeyCDN. KeyCDN is to some a new player in the market, but for me it’s been around for a long time. I knew them since the beginning. They are very inexpensive. They have some servers in the world.
They don’t have as many as Cloudflare, but they have enough for you to achieve good results with your Google page ranks. So definitely check that out. They also have a trial so you can test them out. I would definitely recommend you testing out multiple to see what works best for you. Of course, you can test them out in a period of time, but you can also install a CDN, go to Google Pagespeed and see what this CDN does for you.
What CDN is making your website rank the highest in the scores from the Google Pagespeed, the last one I want to recommend you is called StackPath.
Some of you might not know it, but know it anyway, because the old name for this StackPath is MaxCDN. MaxCDN is in between KeyCDN and Cloudflare. It’s, it’s a good CDN, it has some servers around. It has more than KeyCDN and still not as many as Cloudflare. But the good thing about MaxCDN as it is with Cloudflare is that a ton of different plugins here by cache plugins and normal CDN plugins have integration to StackPath or formerly known as MaxCDN.
The same for Cloudflare. KeyCDN is not integrated with so many plugins. They have their own plugin. But this is worth taking in when you have to decide what plugin you go with. For instance, if you use a cache plugin as WP Rocket, then it doesn’t really matter because you just plug in a CDN URL, and then you are good to go. And often in the different plugins, when you want to integrate a CDN, you can basically just choose custom and then plug in the URL for your CDN and then you’re good to go.
So that’s been it. Please leave a review wherever you’re listening to this episode and remember, consistency is key to success. Thank you for listening. And let’s catch up on the next one.
