Looking for an alternative to Semrush and Ahrefs? Dragon Metrics might be what you’re looking for.

What is Dragon Metrics?

Dragon Metrics is a comprehensive SEO software that caters to businesses of all sizes, including Startups, SMEs, and Enterprises. It is designed for Web and Android platforms to provide a complete suite of features. These attributes include:

  • Competitor Analysis
  • Keyword Research Tools
  • Content Management
  • Link Management

You can find SEO software has many modules similar to Ahrefs and Semrush, and it has. So, with Dragon Metrics, you can streamline your SEO strategy to achieve your marketing goals.

Dragon Metrics Review: Key Features

The Dragon Metrics SEO software has many modules similar to Ahrefs and Semrush, with loads of features. But today, in my Dragon Metrics review, I’ll focus on four modules to compare to the competition. These are Keyword Research, Competitor Research, the Explorer, and Technical SEO.

Keyword Research: Multiple Methods

dragon-metrics-keyword-research

Using the keyword research module, you have two ways of doing this. You can enter a keyword and go from there. You can also compare yourself to a competitor to find your keyword gaps.

Having these two methods to check a ranking keyword is excellent, as you can get reliable keyword insights by doing research based on your domain. You can also use the Explorer, which I will get to later. For example, I used a simple phrase as “best SEO.”

I wanted to see how good it was at finding keyword ideas and related keywords, so I expected to see “best SEO tools,” best SEO agencies,” and more displayed.

So, it displayed these keywords that are used mainly in Search Engines. Still, compared to Semrush, the features for keyword research showed a considerable gap. Dragon Metrics found 738 keyword ideas, and Semrush found 14,200 keyword ideas.

Hence, you can see a huge difference in the keyword rank tracker database sizes. Based on my testing, the overall feel of the design and filtering options is a bit behind Semrush.

Semrush is also easier to use and navigate. Still, you can filter everything you need, and I love to see the organic difficulty as well as the CPC difficulty.

Competitor Research

You can use the competitor research module for competitor analysis. You can also check the visibility of competitor keyword ranking using your competition on rankings and links or use the keyword gap tool.

I used the keyword gap tool, and it is super easy to use, so even you will find it a breeze using the simple rank tracker. The benefit is that you can compare your site against five competitors. I compared my site to Ahrefs and found I had 196 keywords in common.

Ahrefs is ranking for 45,300 keywords I’m not ranking for. I also did the same in Semrush; here, it found 367 keywords in common. This is almost double the amount and 82.700 keywords I am not ranking for, which Ahrefs is.

Again, this shows what it means to have a more extensive database for competitor keyword targeting, and I’m making this comparison also because they’re in the same pricing plan range.

So, you are not getting reliable keyword insights.

Ranking Module

dragon-metrics-rank-tracking

The rank tracking module is super simple, it reminds me a lot of how KeySearch does it, and I kind of like it.

The difference is that they do give you more graphs and visual elements to understand your rankings and whether you’re ranking for featured snippets or “people also ask” sections.

Link Gap Module

link-gap-module

The link gap module is super cool. You can find all the links going to your competitors but not to you and then reach out to those websites to get them to link to you. Obviously, you need to provide some value, but this is an excellent start as you get a lead list to work through.

Ranking Research-Explorer

So, back to spying on your competitors, which is what you use the Explorer module for, or as Dragon Metrics has named it, Ranking Research.

When you look up a domain, you will get a massive flow of information from its traffic and backlinks about what keywords they’re ranking for and where their traffic comes from.

What I like about this module is that you can also analyze individual pages and see what keywords they’re ranking for. This will benefit you as it helps you know the low-competition keywords you can tap into.

Honestly, I don’t have a finger to put on this module. It solves the use case well.

Technical SEO

Lastly, I checked out the site audit. Still, when you run these reports, take them with a grain of salt, as not everything will tell you it is an issue compared to using Google Analytics.

It does a decent job of finding issues with the URL X-Ray, making it one of the excellent features, but I wish they would make it easier to navigate. I prefer to use Ahref’s site audit, as it digs deep and allows you to find and fix the issues that matter.

Another benefit is that you can tell it to ignore URLs, like pagination pages and other pages for which you have no index on purpose. You can also dig deeper into a specific URL to receive issues on that page and see historical data.

Other Dragon Metric Features

While I only touched on some of the modules that are important to me, many other features are offered.

You find some great features added that you do not see every day, like diving into SERP to track feature snippets, and people also ask.

Here are some standout added features:

  • Analytics and ROI tracking
  • Link Management
  • Search Engine, Location, and Device Support
  • API Access
  • Content planning to attract organic traffic
  • Reporting
  • Google Analytics Integration

Alternative to Dragon Metrics

I had to chuckle, as I think πŸ€” you already know what alternatives I recommend compared to the Dragon Metrics. The truth is, you guessed right: Ahrefs and Semrush.

Dragon Metrics Pricing

They offer plans for all organization sizes and budgets. The starter plan has 1,000 keywords and crawls 200,000 URLs. You can use it to compare your site to five campaigns, and three users can access the account.

The starter plan costs $99 monthly or $82 yearly and comes with a free trial. Next, you have the basic plan with 2,500 keywords and 500,00 URLs to crawl, 10 Campaigns, and 5 Users.

The basic price package costs $249 monthly or $207 yearly. Next, you have a Standard and Enterprise pack offering users more keyword research and campaigns. These plans start at $499 and go up to $999.

Currently, there is a Custom plan with 10,000 keywords, 2M URLs crawled, and unlimited campaigns and users. This plan is discounted at $0.01 per tracked keyword.

Wrap-Up: Is Dragon Metrics Worth It?

The Dragon Metrics is worth it as a tool for SEO experts. It has much more to offer, as I only reviewed the models I use most when working with SEO tools.

I’m impressed with the functionality, and they need to keep it going and expand their database. They have my favorite module, the keyword gap module, so it’s a huge bonus here.

Regarding pricing, they’re very similar to Semrush and Ahrefs, which is a bit of a bummer. I would like to see their price themselves a bit cheaper. Yet, they don’t limit your credit usage, so that’s a positive.

Although Dragon Metrics offers the same functionality as KeySearch, another tool I use, the price difference is massive. KeySearch only costs $17 monthly, whereas Dragon Metrics costs $99.

So, if you’re using Ahrefs or Semrush today and looking for an alternative, consider Dragon Metrics.

I’ve only compared the main modules, which offer an advanced reporting module and much more. This is undoubtedly a top-notch SEO tool with significant datasets and features.

There are three things I hope to see improve in the future: the database size, the price, and the design.
